Trash and Recycling Pickups Resume Regular Times Starting September 30

Starting September 30, solid waste collections in Bowie will return to their normal schedule. After recent adjustments, the city is resuming regular pick-up times for trash, recycling, and yard waste. Residents should have their items placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on their designated collection day. The change aims to streamline services and ensure timely removal of waste, helping to keep the community clean and running smoothly. The city encourages residents to continue sorting their recyclables and yard waste appropriately to support Bowie’s ongoing environmental efforts. For any questions, visit the city’s waste management webpage.

Located at the Village Baptist Church in Bowie, the Little Free Food Pantry and Little Free Book Cubby offer simple yet vital services to the community. Open to anyone in need, these resources provide free, accessible support to those facing food insecurity or seeking to enrich their minds with a good book. The pantry is stocked with non-perishable food items, toiletries, and household essentials, all generously donated by local residents and church members. The adjacent Little Free Book Cubby, modeled after the “Little Free Library” movement, invites visitors to take or leave books, offering a wide variety of reading materials for all ages.

Both initiatives foster a spirit of community and compassion, providing help to those in need while encouraging others to give back. Available 24/7, these free resources reflect the church’s mission to support its neighbors, ensuring that no one in the area has to go without food—or a book to read.

Bowie State University has climbed to #11 in U.S. News & World Report's 2025 Best Colleges ranking for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), up five spots from last year. This achievement also secures Bowie State as one of the top 10 public HBCUs in the nation.

The university was also recognized for social mobility, ranking 54th in the Regional Universities (North) category for its success in graduating Pell Grant recipients, often from households earning less than $50,000 annually.

President Aminta Breaux credited the rise in rankings to the dedication and hard work of Bowie State’s faculty, staff, and students. U.S. News ranked 77 HBCUs based on factors such as retention rates, student excellence, faculty resources, and graduation rates, as well as peer evaluations from HBCU administrators.
