Bowie Gymnasium Reopens After Routine Maintenance on September 23

The Bowie Gymnasium is set to reopen on September 23 following the completion of routine maintenance. The facility was temporarily closed for essential repairs and upgrades to ensure safety and enhance user experience. With the maintenance work now finished, the gym is ready to welcome back the public for basketball games, fitness classes, and recreational activities.

USA Cycling Supports Cycling Growth at Clinton, Langston, and Bowie State

Clinton College, Langston University, and Bowie State University have received grants to develop collegiate cycling programs, thanks to a partnership between USA Cycling, EF Pro Cycling, and Cannondale. The initiative aims to expand the sport of cycling within Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs).

The grant program provides each institution with $30,000 over three years, supporting their efforts to create inclusive, long-lasting cycling programs. Schools will also participate in a virtual race series hosted by Cyclone Racing League, designed to foster competition and community among HBCU students and alumni.

Leaders from the partner organizations emphasized the goal of increasing diversity in cycling and making the sport more accessible. The program aims to establish a lasting presence for cycling within these schools, promoting fitness, community, and inclusivity.

Psi Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® Hosts Virtual Candidate Forum for Prince George’s County Residents - September 25th

In preparation for the 2024 General Election, the forum will help community residents learn about the candidates running for the Prince George’s County Circuit Court. Likewise, PEO will facilitate a discussion on the importance of voting and encourage voters to complete the entire ballot or “down ballot” vote during this consequential election season.

This event is open to the public and will allow community members to ask questions to each candidate. Participants in the candidates’ forum include: Judge Cheri Simpkins, Judge Donnell Turner, Judge Stenise Rolle and Judge Darren Johnson.

“Psi Epsilon Omega is excited to provide a platform for Prince George's County residents to learn more about the candidates who are currently running for Circuit Court and the importance of voting, ” said Karen Hicks, PEO President. “We encourage voters to verify their registration status and cast their ballot during this and every election.”
