August 11-17: Enjoy Sales Tax Savings During Maryland’s Tax-Free Week
Maryland's annual Tax-Free Week is set to run from Sunday, August 11, through Saturday, August 17, 2024, offering residents a chance to save on essential back-to-school items and other qualifying purchases. During this week, shoppers can enjoy a sales tax exemption on clothing and footwear priced at $100 or less per item. Additionally, the first $40 of any backpack purchase is also tax-free.
This initiative is designed to help families prepare for the upcoming school year while providing a boost to local businesses. It's an excellent opportunity to stock up on necessities like uniforms, shoes, and backpacks without the added cost of sales tax. Retailers across the state will be participating, making it easier for Marylanders to take advantage of the savings.
Whether you're preparing for the school year or just looking to refresh your wardrobe, Maryland's Tax-Free Week is the perfect time to shop smart and save.

SAVE THE DATE: Bowie Hosts Virtual Clinic for Grant Applicants on August 22
On Thursday, August 22, 2024, the City of Bowie will offer a Virtual Grants Clinic designed for individuals and organizations interested in applying for city grants. The focus will be on funding opportunities in Arts, Education, Community Outreach, and Academic Travel. During the online session, participants will receive detailed guidance on the application process, including eligibility criteria and specific requirements for each grant category.
The City of Bowie’s Arts, Community Outreach, and Education Committees are currently accepting grant applications for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. This clinic is an excellent opportunity to understand the nuances of the grant programs, helping applicants craft stronger proposals.
Securing a grant from the City of Bowie offers several significant benefits. First, it provides essential funding that can bring innovative projects to life, whether they involve creative arts, educational initiatives, or community outreach efforts. Second, receiving a grant enhances the credibility of the project and the applicant, which can lead to further opportunities and support. Third, the grant allows for broader impact, enabling individuals and organizations to reach more people and make a meaningful difference in the community.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to join the virtual clinic at 7 p.m. on August 22 to maximize their chances of success and take full advantage of these funding opportunities.
